What Andy Said is True…. Are You Ready?

“In the Future Everyone Will Be World Famous for 15 Minutes” Andy Warhol

So you want to claim your 15 minutes or more? Perhaps you have a few PR opportunities and you just do not know what to do?  Here is a quick list of do’s and don’ts for pitching the media!

Have FREE media listings sent to you three times daily from HARO – Help Out A Reporter and use the tips below to pitch the media and amplify your brand.

  1. DO – keep your pitch short and sweet – media folks are super busy and get tons of emails daily. Keep your pitch short and to the point, no more than 2 paragraphs and add in a tip or two. They want to know how you can help their story not what you have done for the past 10 years.
  2. DON’T – add an attachment to your email. Media folks will not open emails with attachments for several reasons, it takes time, they are often working on a mobile device and want to see everything in one view.
  3. DO – compile all of the important information you want them to know about you in an easy to read format and create an online media kit that is uploaded to your website and they can just click a link – or – create a separate “media” web page with all of the information and include the link in your email. Include past media, headshots they can download, awards, certifications, testimonials, links to every place they can find you and anything else that makes you unique.
  4. DON’T – make it go on forever, even if you provide additional information in another space, if these folks clicked, they want to learn more about you, don’t chase them away with too much information.
  5. DO – read the media request, then reread and reread again – really know what they are asking for and give them exactly what they want, make it easy to work with you and you become very attractive. Be sure that your pitch is related to what they are asking for.
  6. DO – follow up all interviews with a thank you email and if you can an @mention on social media, stay in touch in an unobtrusive way, you now have a media contact!

Be sure to comment below and come on over to my Facebook Page and share your media successes!

Happy last days of Summer.
