Connecting the Dots: How Strategy Becomes Your Compass
Part 8 of The Intentional Visibility Project
Over the past seven articles, we’ve explored the foundations of strategic visibility. Now let me show you how they connect.
In 2006, I started my business out of necessity. Over the years, it evolved through several versions. Until recently, I saw this as failure—always seeking something new and better.
Three years ago, I realized I’d built an agency I didn’t want. I took myself through the “content audit” I guide clients through. That’s when everything shifted.
This wasn’t an audit. This was calling in the fleet.
Don’t Burn Down the Ships | Call in the Fleet
Here’s what we’re told as women over 50: If you want something different, burn it all down and start over.
That is unequivocal bullshit.
What if, instead of burning down the ships, we called in the fleet? Why abandon what has carried you this far when you can bring all your strengths, resources, and earned wisdom together for what’s next?
Your fleet is already here. You’ve been assembling it through this series:
- Intentionality – your navigation system
- Architecture – your foundation
- Audience Understanding – your reconnaissance
- Wisdom + AI – your amplification
- Content Mixtape – your evidence
- Tried & New – your curation process
- PR Relationships – your connections
These aren’t isolated tactics. Together, they create your strategic compass.
How Your Compass Actually Works
When an opportunity arises—a podcast, a speaking invitation, a collaboration—your compass gives you the questions:
- Does this serve my purpose? (Intentionality)
- Does this build on my foundation? (Architecture)
- Does this serve my audience’s journey? (Audience)
- Can I show up authentically? (Wisdom/AI)
- Does this belong in my body of work? (Mixtape)
- What am I bringing? What’s new? (Tried & New)
- Is this a partnership or a transaction? (PR Relationships)
When you can answer clearly, decisions become obvious. You’re not chasing every opportunity. You’re navigating with intention.
Your Third Act Platform
We’re not meant to start over. We’re meant to stand on everything we’ve already built.
When you call in your fleet instead of burning down your ships, you witness your own body of work in action. You recognize patterns you couldn’t see before. You find evidence to silence imposter syndrome. You gather strength from every part of your journey.
And you build visibility that matches the significance of your work.
The Choice
You can keep burning down ships every time someone tells you to reinvent yourself. Keep starting over, abandoning what you’ve built, performing for platforms that will change tomorrow.
Or you can call in your fleet.
Your intentionality, architecture, audience understanding, wisdom, content, curation process, and relationships—together they create your strategic compass. The navigation system that guides you through your third act with clarity and conviction.
What Comes Next
This series represents the articulation of my life’s work, so far… If you’ve read all eight articles, you understand how the pieces connect.
Some will take this framework and run with it. Others will want partnership, someone who’s been there to help you see what you can’t see yet.
Whether through strategic visibility planning, BeVisible.club, or working together one-on-one, I help accomplished women over 50 architect visibility that matches the significance of their work.
But regardless of how you move forward:
You’re not starting over. You’re standing on everything you’ve already built.
Your fleet is here. Your wisdom matters. Your third act deserves strategic architecture that lasts.
Don’t burn down the ships. Call in the fleet.
This completes The Intentional Visibility Project, an 8-part series exploring the strategic architecture of lasting visibility for accomplished women over 50.
