To celebrate all that is Brené Brown and her new Netflix special Call to Courage, I gathered some of my favorite books, videos, and interviews to share.
Let’s all dig into our shame, vulnerability, and courage and come out the other side better for it.
I love this woman, below I have gathered some of her powerful work. If you are not familiar with her, start here and get to know her. If you are a diehard fan, like me, this Netflix thing is big and I am pretty sure she would appreciate lots of love right now so dive back in. I have had the good fortune to see her live twice and she is incredibly smart, funny as hell, and so relatable – the entire audience sighs, laughs, and tears up collectively.
Enjoy and let’s discuss in the comments below, share on my facebook page, or catch me on social. I’m easy to find.
“I study shame, what do you do?”
Brené Brown – Call to Courage – Netflix
Read this interview “The Call to Courage, Will Help You Access More Love, Joy, and Belonging” in Oprah Magazine and then watch Brené Brown’s Netflix Special. Not much more to say but enjoy!
“I want to be in the arena. I want to be brave with my life. And when we make the choice to dare greatly, we sign up to get our asses kicked. We can choose courage or we can choose comfort, but we can’t have both. Not at the same time.”
Brené Brown-The Power of Vulnerability-Ted Talk
This is where it all started in 2010. Brené was an unknown researcher in Texas until she took the Ted stage… then her talk The Power of Vulnerability went viral quickly as of today it has 39,378,836 views on YouTube.
In 20 minutes, Brené takes you through the results of her studies on the human connection — our ability to empathize, belong, love. In a poignant, funny talk, she shares a deep insight from her research, one that sent her on a personal quest to know herself as well as to understand humanity.
“Authenticity is a collection of choices that we have to make every day”
Dare to Lead: Brave Work. Tough Conversations. Whole Hearts.
I love every book she has written, but Dare to Lead gathers so much of the information, research, and strategy together for different areas of her work. It truly is the ultimate playbook for developing brave leaders and courageous cultures. Daring leadership is a collection of four skill sets that are 100% teachable. It’s learning and practice that requires brave work, tough conversations, and showing up with our whole hearts.
Be sure to look at the Dare to Lead Hub – not only a great place connect with others, but such a good model for creating an online resource center for your book.
That said, read her other books too… The Power of Vulnerability is one of her early books and it changed my life. I also like to listen to her books on Audible, she reads them and speaks right to you.
“True belonging doesn’t require you to change who you are it requires you to BE who you are”
A Few Favorite Brené Brown Interviews
Below are links to a few favorite interviews, but don’t stop here… these are just a few, there are so many more. The Super Soul Sunday with Oprah is sooo good plus they have also done a few wonderful interviews together.
Poke around and find a few that call out to you, you will not regret it.
Vulnerable is Not Weak – A great interview with Jonathan Fields – The Good Life Project
Curious How To Brave? Here’s What The Research Says – One of my favorite Marie Forleo interviews, so real…
“Live tweeting your bikini wax, not vulnerability”
What are your favorites?
“Maybe stories are just data with a soul” . I love this quote, I sit comfortably between my left and right brain, so this quote works for me. I see the data, I hear the story, I feel the people. It works. I show up every day in my office as a physician this way.
I love this Mary, it is so YOU.
