What do you do and why do you do it?

I created a movement called, “Its OK to be Old” through books, a YouTube show and a series of seminars across the country that feature older adults as role models to live life to the fullest at any age.

What changed for you after age 50?

I didn’t know it wasn’t socially acceptable to run marathons, wear miniskirts, go out, and travel alone after 50. The ageism I experienced was profound, and so I started to study the art, science, and mystery of growing old.

What would you tell the 20 or 30-year-old YOU?

Don’t worry, be happy. Take every chance that is presented to you, and don’t let anyone in your life that doesn’t love you.

What do you think you’ll tell yourself in retrospect at the end of your life?

I think I will have lived a very rich life and that even the disappointments, perceived failures, and the roads not taken were all part of the universe’s plan for me…

What impact do you think increased visibility can have on your business?

I want the whole world, men and women, to know that “It’s OK to be Old.” The more visibility I have, I truly believe more people will come forward and find ways to live life better. So much fear, shame and societal pressures keeps us from coming into our own.

Who or what inspires you and why?

I am inspired by so many people right now, the artist who picks up a paint brush at 70 years old, the 85-year-old widow who takes a chance on love and wins, the 90-year-old doctor who climbs skyscrapers for fun, and most importantly, the unsung heroes who continue to live their live and give back without any recognition.

Something else I’d like to share

I was a very late bloomer in everything that I have accomplished. Seeing how far I got in my 50s and 60s, when I was historically told it’s over, gives me hope for my future: that I will live a life for me and my family beyond our wildest dreams.
