About me
I’m an award-winning copywriter, messaging consultant, and CEO of That’s A Spade Copywriting Services.
I write website copy, blogs, and other custom content for female entrepreneurs who are ready to use their unique perspectives and bold voices to attract and work with the clients they can serve best. I’m also an author, and available for custom workshops or speaking engagements.
When I’m not writing, I love to hang out in the city, eat good food, travel, read, and laugh. A lot!
What do you do and why do you do It?
I encourage and motivate my clients to dig deeper, explore further, and get clearer about how they want to communicate about their businesses and themselves. Then I integrate their bold voices and unique ideas into their content.
Women need to get comfortable with standing out in the marketplace and feel confident writing and talking naturally about who they are and how they help their clients in a different way.
What changed for you after age 50?
I do not care if I am judged. I do not want to struggle with high-maintenance relationships. I want to listen to myself and do all the things I put to the side gratefully to raise my amazing kids. I want to spend time alone with my husband, just us. I want to spend time alone with myself to strengthen my autonomy and individual purpose. I want to take care of my wants now.
What would you tell the 20 or 30-year-old YOU?
Don’t resist or hesitate because of other people’s opinions or unsolicited feedback. It’s generally fear-based.
You can listen to what others have to say, but then you make big decisions based on what’s right for YOU.
What do you think you’ll tell yourself in retrospect at the end of your life?
You built a wonderful life with very few resources. You raised kids who will make the world a better place. Be proud of your legacy and how it will encourage others to push forward.
What impact do you think increased visibility can have on your business?
I think you can never have too much exposure (one of my 2023 words). The more people who can see you, the greater your chance of finding those gems whose lives you know you can change if you connect with them. The more people you meet, the more bonds you can make and lessons you can learn.
Growth is unlimited with continued visibility.
“Being 50+ is such a powerful time. People sometimes say ‘I can’t wait to retire.’ I do want to retire from some of the things I was doing, but now I really want to do things that light my fire. We are a force to be reckoned with.”
Beth Knaus
The Brief
In this conversation with Beth Knaus, a creative copywriter who helps women entrepreneurs find their true voice in their writing, especially those who want to differentiate themselves from others in their industry. Beth recently turned 50, and her life has changed in many ways. She became more confident in doing things for herself, moved to a new house, and started writing for herself.
During the conversation, Beth shared her three chosen words for 2023: exposure, encourage, and allow. These words serve as a mantra for her to push herself out of her comfort zone and to allow opportunities to come to her.
Finally, we discussed how people often overlook their own strengths and abilities and how it’s important to dive deeper into what someone is presenting. It’s important to recognize our responsibility to pass on knowledge and wisdom to future generations, while also recognizing that not everything from the past needs to be preserved. By being open to opportunities and making space for them, we can lead to bigger and better things. Let’s remember that creating a legacy is not just about financial inheritance, but also about what we leave behind and what we teach others.
Beth hopes that the “50 over 50” initiative, which aims to amplify the stories, wisdom, and knowledge of women over 50, will help combat ageism and show that older women still have a lot to offer.
Be sure to connect with Beth and learn more about her.
