Barb Scala | The Real 50 over 50

About me

I’ve worn many hats—attorney, mediator, author, entrepreneur, coach—but the most powerful transformation came when I stopped chasing success and started redefining it on my own terms.

For years, I built businesses, led negotiations, and coached women to rebuild their lives and careers after divorce and other life transitions.  From an award-winning real estate professional to launching my own law firm to co-authoring Sanity Savers: Tips for Women to Live a Balanced Life, I knew how to build success from the outside. But inside, I was craving something deeper—fulfillment, a ‘higher’ level of service, and a sense of purpose that aligned with who I was evolving into.

Yet even with all my credentials, I struggled to embrace my own value. I deeply wanted to help women create meaningful change, but I didn’t believe I could step into the role of a thought leader—because I thought that ‘honored’ space was reserved only for women who were already visible, polished, and confident. I was playing small, stuck in outdated roles and stories that no longer reflected who I was becoming. My own life transitions like divorce and empty nesting cracked open a deeper truth: I wasn’t just ready for a new chapter—I was ready to redefine my success from the inside out.

That’s when I began a step-by-step process that would become my signature framework: Seeds for Success™. Through reflection, inner work, and soulful strategy, I unearthed my self-worth, reclaimed my voice, and stepped into visibility with clarity and confidence. And I’d love to guide you to redefine your success too.

Let’s root into your value, rise with purpose, and create the impact you were born to make.

I’d be honored to support you in your journey to Bloom!

What do you do and why do you do it?

I’ve seen too many smart women undervalue themselves, doubt their ability to lead, and settle for work that doesn’t reflect their true gifts or purpose—because I was one of them. After my divorce, I lost my confidence and questioned everything I thought I knew about success, identity, and worth. That experience cracked something open in me, and it became the beginning of a journey to reclaim not just my voice, but my vision.

The limiting belief I shared with so many women was that we can only “make it” through transactional skills—checking boxes, playing safe, staying small. But I’ve come to believe that true success is rooted in transformative impact, not just credentials or hustle. I want to change that false narrative.

I care deeply about helping women rewrite their story—aligning with work they once thought was out of reach but was always theirs to claim. Simply put, I help women bloom. Not just in business, but in how they see themselves, speak their truth, and shape their future.

What changed for you after age 50?

I knew I wanted to help women who undervalued themselves, as I had undervalued myself. And I knew I deserved ‘something more’ and desired to live life on my terms.

I began to be bold and visible in creating a platform to empower and inspire women, only to shrink back in fear, returning to my mainstream career of practicing law. But my vision never died. I use the challenges I have faced and the resilience I have acquired through the years to keep me moving forward.

After 50, I also awakened to a spiritual path of possibilities and opportunities, which I incorporate into my work every day.

What would you tell the 20 or 30-year-old YOU?

Believe in yourself.

What do you think you’ll tell yourself in retrospect at the end of your life?

You really learned how to love yourself.

What impact do you think increased visibility can have on your business?

Positive impact in reaching the people who I can best serve.

Who or what inspires you and why?

I’m inspired by anything that brings personal and/or spiritual growth, especially over 50, which is why the word “bloom” resonates with me.

My two grown children also inspire me to be the best I can be because they have the confidence and courage to live their lives on their terms.

Something else I’d like to share

I like to say I’m headed toward “inspirement” rather than “retirement” by staying open, curious and connected to this vibrant part of life.
