The Real 50 over 50 | Debbie Brosnan

About me

Debbie Brosnan loves all things food. She found her way from personal chef to virtual cooking class instructor as she and her business adapted with the need for virtual events.

Debbie is a passionate self-taught home cook who began her journey cooking alongside her mother and grandmother as a young child. Her focus is on healthy food that tastes amazing using simple recipes so that those who take her classes will continue to make those dishes and others in their own kitchens.

Using the recipes she has been teaching in class, Debbie wrote The Effortless Kitchen Cookbook: Simple, Healthy and Delicious Recipes That Make Everyday Cooking Effortless which is an Amazon bestseller.

Debbie also leads culinary tours in Europe twice a year as an offering for those who have the travel bug. Details are on www.theeffortlesskitchen.com

What do you do and why do you do it?

I teach kitchen confidence and how to bring joy and ease into the kitchen. I want people to understand that cooking does not have to be complicated and when they cook for themselves they are making healthier choices which have a ripple effect for their body and mind.

What changed for you after age 50?

I started this business at the age of 48 when I realized I just need to do it after wanting to have a food business since the age of 17.

What would you tell the 20 or 30-year-old YOU?

Do what you enjoy and don’t worry about the shoulds. What you do now does not have to be what you do for your entire life.

What do you think you’ll tell yourself in retrospect at the end of your life?

You made it happen and you helped change lives either in the kitchen or through the trips to Europe.

What impact do you think increased visibility can have on your business?

Increased visibility means more people know about me and can have access to my services meaning I can help more people!

Who or what inspires you and why?

My oldest daughter inspires me. She is 23, living in NYC, and trying to make it as a musical theater performer. It takes a lot of courage to go for what you want and to have the tenacity to stick with it in the face of constant rejection.
