About me
Quietly Leading from the Back of the Room.
As a graphic designer and best-selling author, I have learned to design with words and imagery, and lead with a quiet energy. I work with clients to create clarity, precision, and impactful design solutions.
I found my voice through my storytelling; wrote about what I knew, and released the floodgates.
Being a shy introvert, I didn’t think my stories mattered. I joined an oral storytelling workshop, and once I started telling stories, I realized I could make people laugh, make people cry, and make people think deeper. Perhaps I had stories worth telling after all.
What do you do and why do you do it?
Laura Ballerini is a seasoned artist who has been running a thriving design boutique for over 26 years and now designs with words as well as imagery. With over 40 years in the design industry as a whole, Laura sees the influence that art and design have in our daily lives. Through her unique creative lens, she shares personal stories that illustrate the countless ways art and design affect all of us. Laura has a degree in Visual Communications from The Alberta University of the Arts (formerly the Alberta College of Art), and is a recipient of numerous awards throughout her career. Her passion for continuous learning includes regular educational initiatives.

Laura has recently found her inner badass and radiates her ‘quietly fierce’ disposition in her work and her life.
What changed for you after age 50?
I was diagnosed with breast cancer and got tired of playing small. Life is short, and it was my turn to shine.
What would you tell the 20 or 30-year-old YOU?
Believe in yourself. The world deserves to know the wonderful person you are.
What do you think you’ll tell yourself in retrospect at the end of your life?
I did it. I WAS enough afterall.
What impact do you think increased visibility can have on your business?
My design work gets stronger through the years. My recent key message: I am creatively fierce.
Who or what inspires you and why?
My mother, my daughters, my sister. The women who share my DNA are pretty incredible people in every way!
Something else I’d like to share
Well, I talk a lot of Perspective Shifting. Which is a fresh approach, with a clear focus, that can make you more grounded in your own values and often more influential to the people around you. As a Perspective Shifter, you’ll experience greater ease in facing your challenges, deepening your relationships, and becoming empowered in all areas of your life. It starts with amplifying these three senses: feeling, seeing, and listening.
