Joan Ramirez – 50+

About me

Joan Ramirez holds a Master of Science in Business, Medical, and Technical Journalism, as well as two other degrees in ESL and Education. She has published on a variety of topics from cochlear implants to the economy and has conducted workshops –domestic and foreign–on the nuances of business communications for managers and start-up companies. She is the leader of her own enterprise with training programs (over twenty-five years of expertise) for entrepreneurs at all levels. For many years, she trained the technical staff of a large engineering firm in the nuances of business writing. She developed a handbook to supplement her lectures: THE WRITE RULES, which is in the London Consortium of Libraries and is read and used here in the US and abroad.

What do you do and why do you do it?

Right now, I’m excited about a new venture: Preparing High School students for the communications challenges of college, a new literary series featuring a captivating but dangerous female protagonist, and my ongoing training webinars for future entrepreneurs.

What changed for you after age 50?

Surviving 9-11. Realizing how fragile life is and pursuing my business and literary goals.

What would you tell the 20 or 30-year-old YOU?

Pursue your passion, but not to the extent where it affects your mental and physical well-being.

What do you think you’ll tell yourself in retrospect at the end of your life?

She went the distance and changed the lives of many people.

What impact do you think increased visibility can have on your business?

More subscribers to my blog and visibility for The Write Rules and my entrepreneurial webinars.

Who or what inspires you and why?

My 99-year-old Holocaust survivor, Hedy, who, despite the hardships she has suffered (labor in two camps), wakes up with a smile on her face. She is my hero.
